Austenitic stainless steels and special alloys are recommended worldwide for the manufacture of surgical implants. In addition to having high corrosion resistance, these alloys are obtained by a special process that includes an Electro Slag Remelting (ESR) process that removes impurities from the melting process.
Examples of materials used in surgical implants: rods, joints, screws, bolts and clamp plates. For these items, Villares Metals offers the following austenitic stainless steels and special alloys: VI 138, VI 58329 and VF562QI.
Used in surgical implants and prostheses, the alloy also applies when the combination of high corrosion resistance with high mechanical strength is required, such as in marine cables, aviation cables and springs.
Used as plates, screws and wires for surgical implants.
This alloy has the same application as the 138 VI alloy. However, when solubilized, this alloy has about three times the pitting corrosion resistance of the VI 138 and about twice its the mechanical strength.
